Cycling Into Railway History

Discover local railway history and many other historical features with a journey from Witton Country Park, Blackburn to Clitheroe in the Ribble Valley.

This self guide leaflet will take you from Blackburn along the towpath of the Leeds and Liverpool Canal as a far as Cunliffe where the route will pick up the track bed of the former Great Harwood Loop Line through to Martholme viaduct.

From Martholme the route will take you to Whalley and its magnificent railway arches and then onto Clitheroe via Mitton, passing the old railway line into Calderstones Hospital.
